MAHMOUD AHMED - Ere Mela Mela LP
Finally available again! Exclusive vinyl edition from the legendary "Ethiopiques" series (BUDA MUSIQUE) on HEAVENLY SWEETNESS! 180-gram vinyl, sturdy cardboard cover with the original artwork, mastered from the original tapes. "Ere Mela Mela" includes the album released in 1975 by the well-known Ethiopian singer MAHMOUD AHMED with two bonus tracks from 1978. Born in 1941, AHMED initially worked as a shoeshine boy on the streets of Addis Ababa, but by a stroke of luck he got the job as singer of the IMPERIAL BODY GUARD BAND in the 1960s and quickly became a real star whose reputation as one of the best voices on the continent eventually spread to the western world and even earned him a BBC WORLD MUSIC AWARD in 2007. AHMED's minor-key Afro-Soul is an ideal example of a cross-fertilization of Eastern and Western musical styles and also incorporates some of the Latin American influences that his compatriot MULATU ASTATKE had already "imported" in the 1960s.
