MIDDING - Nowhere Near Today LP
Nowhere Near Today, the debut EP by Cardiff-based five-piece Midding, is out today as a limited edition 12âł and across all digital services. Recorded to an 8-track Tascam 488MKII, both at home and in a studio facility located in a disused shopping centre, and entirely self-produced and mixed, the five tracks channel the bandâs Spector-inspired ambitions in a way that skirts the edges of psych, noise-rock and industrial-pop in ways that feel overtly their own.
For a debut, the results are impressively realised, a confluence of expansive tremolo guitars, a deliberately primitive rhythm section and a contrasting vulnerable vocal performance thatâs both melodic and bracing. Itâs a record born both of private experimentation and public performance, who they are on stage and what they express on record informing the other but still distinctly each their own thing, shifting then dovetailing like the waves of feedback that wash through Nowhere Near Today. First steps they may be, but Midding feel uniquely fully realised right out the gate.
Nowhere Near Today is released digitally and as a limited 12âł EP in an edition of 300.
